This cross was crafted by an exceptional French workshop. Established in 1846 in Saumur, the workshop originally specialized in rosary manufacturing. Its activity as a paternoster maker is linked to the existence of a basilica located at the entrance of Saumur on the banks of the Loire, dedicated to a miraculous statuette of the Virgin of Pity, known as "Our Lady of Ardilliers," discovered in 1454 by a farmer from the suburb in his field near a spring. Today, this small business continues the family tradition of jewelry and religious art manufacturing, in the footsteps of the founder, thanks to the 4th generation bearing the same name.
