The rosary is a prayer object that resembles a necklace of beads consisting of five sets of ten beads, the decades. Each set is followed by a single bead. A cross and five beads are located before the centerpiece, which features the image of the Blessed Virgin, a saint, or a Christian symbol. These beads are used for the recitation of the "Hail Mary."

The recitation begins with the sign of the cross, "I believe in God," "Our Father," three "Hail Marys," and a "Glory be." It then involves the recitation of one "Our Father," ten "Hail Marys," and one "Glory be."
